Yesterday, I got to give the lovely Sarah her bespoke engagement ring – it’s my favourite part of the design process when I get to see the delight and joy of a client when they are handed their dream ring!
Sarah’s fiancé Lee popped the question six months ago on the beach with a gorgeous engagement ring charm for her bracelet; he knew she would like to pick her engagement ring while also having a memento she could wear and treasure from his proposal. Needless to say, a lot of brownie points were won there, well done Lee!
However, when it came to finding her dream engagement ring, Sarah struggled to find the ring she had dreamt of off the shelf.
She was looking for a yellow gold ring with a pink sapphire to represent her birthstone and favourite colour but couldn’t find any examples she liked online or on the high street in anything other than white gold or platinum. She was also keen to include a reference to her tree-surgeon fiance, Lee, through a leaf motif of some sort.
We met for a coffee and chatted about her ideas, starting by looking at rings she had found with elements she liked to tie down a basis for her unique design.
We came up with a lovely design that tied together all the elements she wanted in a really pretty, delicate design. The band is a richly toned 18ct yellow gold ring in a highly polished D-profile. It tapers down elegantly towards the central 18ct white gold setting. The shoulders also split in the side view to soften the height difference between the shoulders of the ring and the setting. The setting itself is a four claw shape with beautiful petal-shaped windows in the claws.
The Design
The white gold of the central setting is accented by two leaf shapes on the shoulders of the ring, each set with a sparkly 1.5mm H SI brilliant cut diamond in a very feminine grain setting. The leaves twist towards the central stone to create an asymmetric twist. These leaves have an engraved line down the centre, which carries on to the band of the ring to bring the whole design together. This engraved line fades out at the side of the finger. The leaves have a soft satin finish to contrast the band and make the diamonds stand out and glisten as much as possible.
The star of the show is the beautiful 5mm Brilliant cut pink sapphire – no photograph can do this stone justice! The sparkle and shimmer that reflects off its many facets is a sight to behold. Held in the elegant four claw setting, light can flood in and show off this lovely stone as much as possible.
As with all my commissions, it has been a real pleasure working with Sarah to co-design her dream ring. It’s a real honour to know she will wear the ring every day for the rest of her life and for so much sentimental value to be placed on something I designed and made.
If you are inspired by the story behind this pretty ring and fancy having something made to your exact requirements, or like Sarah, can’t find what you’re looking for on the high street, get in touch here.
